When the Sun Storms, Do Our Dreams Go Silent? Exploring Telepathy and Geomagnetic Fields

Have you ever had a dream about a friend, only to have them call you the next morning? Or dreamed of an event happening far away, only to find out later it was true?

In transpersonal psychology, we group these phenomena under "Extrasensory Perception" (ESP). But not all psychic dreams are the same. In my recent research, I’ve been exploring the distinction between Dream Telepathy and Dream Clairvoyance, and the strange environmental factors that might turn these abilities on and off.

Telepathy vs. Clairvoyance: What’s the Difference?

While often used interchangeably, these terms describe two different modes of connection:

  • Dream Telepathy: This is a mind-to-mind connection. It occurs when an individual “receives the thoughts of another person” or communicates with them directly within the dream state. It is intimate and interpersonal.

  • Dream Clairvoyance: This is a mind-to-event connection. It consists of dreams where a person becomes aware of faraway physical events, rituals, or future happenings. It isn't about hearing someone's thoughts; it's about seeing what is happening in the world beyond your physical reach.

The Geomagnetic Connection

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this research is the link between these dreams and the Earth itself.

Researchers Jerry Mishlove and Professor Stanley Krippner have explored whether our ability to have these dreams is impacted by the larger environment. They cite studies by Michael Persinger, which established a link between low geomagnetic activity and telepathic dreams.

Conversely, when geomagnetic activity is high—during sunspots or electrical storms—reports of accurate telepathy and clairvoyance drop.

We Live in a Cosmos

Why does this happen? Why would a solar flare block a dream?

Krippner believes it is because "we live in a cosmos. What people do is a part of a totality."

If we accept the premise of Animism—that we are all interconnected parts of a larger web of life—it makes sense that our internal receivers would be sensitive to external static. When the Earth's energy field is disturbed by magnetic storms, the "signal" is disrupted. As Krippner states, "the brain is unable to receive telepathic or clairvoyant imagery."

This research reminds us that our minds do not exist in a vacuum. We are plugged into the earth, and even the sun, in ways we are only just beginning to understand.
